Data Collection & Community Visioning Workshop
On October 28–29, 2025, D2 Thrives is bringing neighbors, organizations, and partners together to shape what comes next for District 2.
In partnership with State of Place, we collected data across more than 11,000 street segments and nearly 1,500 blocks in District 2. Using a compact sensor tool called Iris, we documented the details that define daily life: sidewalks, crosswalks, benches, trees, lighting, and land use, along with environmental factors like air quality and light.
This work is part of the Forward Together Action Plan and supported by the Forward Together Collaborative Impact Grant, which allows the workshop to be free for all participants.
What to Expect
The workshop is designed as an interactive and collaborative experience:
- Hands-On Training
Participants will practice collecting built environment data and explore how neighborhood features shape daily movement and connection. - Perception and Data
Side by side, we will look at the collected data and compare it with the lived experiences of District 2 residents. - The Bigger Picture
Insights from other communities will show how design choices connect to housing, safety, health, and opportunity. - Scenario Building
Participants will create and vote on future scenarios for District 2 that reflect community priorities.
From Insight to Action
The outcomes of the workshop will be documented in a community report built on both collected data and lived experience. The report will provide clear, evidence-based priorities that can guide future investments, shape policies, and inform projects in District 2. With this information in hand, community members and organizations will be better equipped to advocate for changes that align with the Forward Together Plan and strengthen the future of District 2.
