About CLTRE
Keeping Culture, Building Culture, Making Culture
CLTRE is a nonprofit community development organization committed to keeping culture, building culture, and making culture in underserved, culturally rich neighborhoods across California. We view culture not as an accessory but as the thread that connects community identity, economic opportunity, and long-term place-based change.
Our mission is to shift California’s cultural landscape by 2040 by investing in neighborhoods that are often overlooked, centering local voices, preserving heritage, and fostering creative-led development. We commit 100 percent of donations directly toward programs and projects that uplift both people and place.
CLTRE operates through three intersecting lenses:
-
Keeping Culture focuses on protecting and celebrating the heritage, stories, and social capital of historically marginalized communities.
-
Building Culture catalyzes equitable development, local entrepreneurship, and sustainable infrastructure.
-
Making Culture fuels creative expression, arts, and small-scale real estate projects that reflect local character and community-driven design.
Structured as a community development corporation with headquarters in Sacramento, CLTRE blends design, real estate, entrepreneurship, and storytelling to reimagine how communities define value and opportunity.
Why We Do What We Do
We believe CLTRE is the thread that connects individuals to their communities and to the past, present, and future. It is the lens through which they view the world and make sense of their experiences.
We are a community development corporation designed to center culture as a way of life, and showcase the locals and small scale real estate projects that make neighborhoods unique.
